News Update – April 21st, 2015

22 April 2015
IMPORTANT NOTE:

NHSP BILL INGREDIENTS, FEES & PROGRESS

Recent publicity has instigated several members to call us or Fiona Bailey at the MOH concerned about the Permitted Ingredients List and Fees for the forthcoming legislation. It’s important to remember that at this stage the legislation does not actually exist as it is still being worked on, all that does actually exist is the Bill, in the format that it is at the moment.

Ingredients: You’re aware that there is a DRAFT list of ingredients of around 5500, and the MOH is still accepting submissions for ingredients not on the draft list to be added and for changes to ingredients already on the list. The MOH will consider submissions in the next phase of work. Should you wish to submit an ingredient or a change to an ingredient please email the details to [email protected]. If possible include the taxonomic and common names, an international non-proprietary name (if one exists) and a pharmacopoeia name citing the pharmacopoeia or a chemical registry number citing the registry. There are NO certainties at the moment so if you feel you would like to add something onto the list to be considered please do so. There will be ample opportunity during the planned engagement and formal consultation to do so as well.

Fees: Again these have not been set. The only rumour we heard a year ago was that the then minister (Mr Ryall) asked that the fees be set reasonably and with no more than two figures. We do not know if that will be the case, as the MOH is still working on budgets, but we have asked consistently for low fees. We have also asked for those products coming in from other jurisdictions recognised by the MOH (that recognition is also a maybe), to be considered to have already gone through the registration process. For example products from Australia which are TGA registered. We do not know the outcome of this, but we have asked.

Conditions: This list is not available yet, and will be part of the consultation process.

Once the Bill has gone through its third reading, the MOH will be undertaking a formal engagement and consultation process with all interested parties. Everyone will have the opportunity to air ideas and concerns at that time.

Summit Feedback Survey
Thank you to all who participated – we had a good response and it was overwhelmingly positive. It seems we hit the mark with speakers this year and that attendees felt that the atmosphere was very positive and upbeat, and the best networking event ever.

Make sure you keep the date for Summit 2016 in your diary – Nelson 17-19 March 2016.
