Dear All,

The Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) has for years been reviewing the Nutrient References Value – Requirements (NRVs-R) for the purpose of nutrition labelling.

The electronic Working Group (eWG) led by Australia has recently issued another round of consultation for members’ comments on 2 nutrients iron and copper, considering the recent EFSA draft opinions. The consultation paper is attached here for your perusal.

IADSA Scientific Council has drafted a response to the eWG in the attached document. The draft IADSA position is as follows:
– Iron: IADSA recommends a single NRV for iron set at 14mg based on an average of 16% dietary absorption. The proposed value is also consistent with the current Codex NRV-R.
– Copper: IADSA recommends the NRV set at 850 µg.

We would appreciate to have your comments on the draft IADSA positions (attached) by 14 August for our compilation and submission to the eWG.

Thanks & Best Regards,
IADSA Secretariat
