Organic Exports to Mexico – A message from Organic Exporters Assn of NZ
On 8th May 2015, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries, and Food (SAGARPA) published a notification in the Diario Oficial (Mexican Federal Register) extending the deadline to comply with Mexico’s organic regulations to 29 October, 2016. This extension allows products certified as organic to be imported from countries that have a formal organic equivalence application with Mexico to continue to enter and be sold in Mexico as organic. You can find a full report on this in English courtesy of the USDA FAS, on our website in the member’s resource section under Mexico in the Market Update Sections.
New Zealand has no organic equivalence under application. Therefore any organic exports to Mexico will be required to meet the Mexican Organic Regulation after the 29th April 2015. If your company is exporting organic products to Mexico please let us know.
