ANZTPA Finally Dead
Most of you will know this already – but just in case………………here is the final death knell for ANZTPA. http://www.health.gov.au/internet/ministers/publishing.nsf/Content/health-mediarel-yr2014-dutton100.htm
Of course this won’t affect us as natural products were not included in the most recent discussions. We still expect our NHSP Bill to go ahead.

Bronze Partners Crombie Lockwood talk about the new Health & Safety Bill
The Health and Safety Reform Bill with cross bench support is currently moving through the parliamentary process. With talk of eye watering fines for individuals the Bill is enough to make most people sit up and take notice. However, at this stage the reforms are only a Bill and for now, it’s not possible to accurately say what the final law will look like. No insurer has yet produced a policy response to cover the new exposures as the exposures themselves haven’t been revealed and legislated. Equally no one is exposed to the new laws and won’t be until June 2015 at the earliest.
On the immediate horizon in December changes to the Sentencing Act become law, the effect is outlined on our website https://www.crombielockwood.co.nz/newsroom/insurance-response-to-sentencing-amendment-act-2014. NPNZ members should check their Statutory Liability insurance, if they would like to take advantage of our relationship with NPNZ they can contact me and I will ensure a Crombie Lockwood broker in their locality will be in touch and review the available options to increase their protection in this often overlooked area.
Once the Act is passed or we know its final structure whichever comes first, Crombie Lockwood will work with insurers to try and get the broadest cover to respond to the new exposures – and hopefully one thing the new Act won’t do is to make the whole thing uninsurable at law!

University of Auckland Food & Bioactives Symposium: Taking Health Benefit Claims to Market
Save the date: February 26 February 2015, Auckland
Learn how to navigate the global regulatory environment to leverage business opportunities from research on advanced foods and bioactives.
The global functional foods and bioactives markets offer exciting opportunities for NZ businesses and significant government support is being direct to help these businesses extract value from associating health and wellness claims with their products. Robust claims must be underpinned by appropriate research, an area that will see government investments of around $100m over the next ten years. Check it out at http://www.naturalproductsnz.org/food-and-bioactives-symposium-taking-health-benefit-claims-to-market/
